In my English IV class, we read a few of the of the literate she made allusions to. Although, I did not read all of the literate mention in Didion essay, I do feel like the literature i was familiar with did fall into place with the point she was attempting to get across.
Didion made statements about both having and lacking self-respect. Although, her statement, "have the courage of their mistake" was the one that reached out to me the most. I got more out of her statement of containing self respect, rather than lacking self respect. Since this statement reached out to me the most, I do believe that it most people would generally agree.
In my opinion, having a discipline is related no matter what it is referring to. Whether it is referring to having self respect or becoming a good writer, discipline is discipline. You have enough self control to send your life in the right direction.
I mostly agree with your second response. I found that that specific part of the reading focused more on the self-respect a person already has, instead of the self-respect a person SHOULD have.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your second paragraph. I too believe that most people would agree with that statement because people should have self-respect.
