I fully agree with this document. Although, this does not only apply to women. Men have the option to disrespect their body to take the easy way out. Everyone makes mistakes, but unfortunately some males do not know how to separate their morals from their desires and it leads them to disrespecting themselves. This document could also apply to underestimated individuals. If you are a minority that is looked down on, this only means you need to work harder to prove yourself. Do not give up on yourself just because someone else does not think you have what it takes. If you don't believe in yourself, who will?
In my opinion, i feel that the meaning behind the phrase,"ethical and intellectual contract" has to do with the difference a student and teacher face when working with the same topic. It is normal for two people to have opposing opinion, therefore they should not be convicted for it. The teacher needs to maintain a professional mindset and grade the student based on his work.
I see what you're saying with your first response. The document only formally addresses women, but it also pertains to those who have been at somewhat of a disadvantage academically in society throughout the years. However, with your second response, I feel it kind of skids away from part of the meaning. And by that, I mean that it seems you talked about how an opinion should be approached by differing sides, instead of how both the student and teacher could compromise that difference.
ReplyDeleteYou and I both believe that minorities also get looked down upon and they must prove themselves to the world to show that they are better than that.
